TRIP's Review of The Charlotte Museum of History
Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s
history from early Native American
villages through present, plus
restored Hezekiah Alexander Homesite,
Freedom Bell, Native Garden.
The Charlotte
Museum of History is a
36,000-square-foot facility
featuring exhibits that cover life
in the Southern Piedmont during the
18th, 18th,
and 20th centuries. The
exhibits present the story of
Charlotte-Mecklenburg in
chronological order through three
themes: “The Human Face of
Charlotte,” “The Physical Space of
Charlotte,” and “Freedom.” On site
to commemorate the theme of freedom
is the seven-ton American Freedom
bell, the largest of its kind in the
world.
Visitors can
enjoy four galleries, one for each
of the last three centuries of
history, plus a gallery that
features rotating exhibits. Stepping
into any one of the museum’s
galleries is like taking a step back
in time. |
