TRIP's Review of Levine Museum of the New South
Located in the heart of Charlotte’s
cultural district, the Levine Museum of the New South
offers a multisensory, multimedia, interactive
experience that tells the story of how Southerners
created the New South and reinvented their economy and
society after the Civil War.
The museum houses 40,000 square feet of exhibition and
public space, featuring permanent and changing exhibits
covering the region’s diverse history with a focus on
Charlotte and the Carolina Piedmont.
A
focal point of the museum is its award-winning,
centerpiece exhibit titled Cotton Fields to
Skyscrapers: Charlotte and the Carolina Piedmont in the
New South.
This permanent display traces the growth of the Piedmont
from 1865 to the present and gives visitors a true sense
of life in Charlotte in the early part of the 20th
century through recreations of many of its most notable
buildings. In addition, the exhibit features more than
1,000 artifacts, images, video clips, and oral
histories. |
