Authentic Indian cuisine’s wealth of spices—cardamom, coriander, cumin, and fennel, to name a few—makes one dizzy with delight at Maharani. In this colorful establishment, you’ll discover a rich culture and cuisine as well served by attentive, traditionally garbed waitstaff and fraught with spice and variety. For a first taste of the flavors of India, try starters of samosa, a crisp pastry stuffed with spiced potatoes, green peas, ginger, garlic, fresh herbs, and minced lamb if you prefer; or paneer pakora, patties of delicate homemade cheese lightly fried, both North Indian specialties. Among myriad seafood, lamb, and chicken selections, Maharani also offers a wealth of vegetarian creations. Favorite meat dishes include Murg Saag, tender chunks of chicken in a thick sauce of spinach and spices; or Lamb Vindaloo cooked in fiery, tangy gravy with pickled onions and potatoes. Many traditional dishes here come from the tandoor, a clay oven with an open charcoal flame. The tandoor also produces naan, an incredible unleavened bread of perfect texture sometimes flavored with garlic.
